At City Center Nov 28–Dec 31, the world-renowned Alvin Ailey Dance American Dance Theater company presents its 2007 season performances. The season opens with a Nov 18 Gala Celebration hosted by Russell Simmons, featuring the company premiere of Maurice Béjart’s innovative reworking of Fokine’s traditional Firebird, as well as Judith Jamison’s re-staging of Alvin Ailey’s Reflections in D and Ailey’s timeless Revelations, both with live music. Catch these awe-inspiring performances and many more in what is sure to be another phenomenal season of Ailey dance.

Dec 11–16 at the Joyce Theater, modern dance iconoclast Molissa Fenley brings her company back with the New York premiere of Dreaming Awake and the world premiere of Calculus and Politics, a dance for three women, three men, six stuffed swans, and a skipping rope, set to music by Harry Partch. Classic works include Provenance Unknown and State of Darkness, a solo performed by Pacific Northwest Ballet guests Jonathan Porretta and Rachel Foster.
