Can we give a round of applause and maybe a bouquet the size of Texas to Bad Bunny? King devoured that halftime show, left no crumbs, and licked the plate clean, bringing out icons like Lady Gaga, Cardi B and Ricky Martin while centering joy, resistance and little bit of delicious chaos for queers and people of color living through…let’s just say interesting times. Even the halftime choreography leaned into unapologetic queer energy, with two men grinding on each other. And while the night’s ads were overwhelmingly about AI, crypto, weight-loss drugs, and gambling (bleak!), there were still flashes of classic Super Bowl ad gaggery worth screaming about.
Lady Gaga surprised the girls (again) when she joined Bad Bunny onstage for a salsa-infused rendition of “Die With a Smile,” later calling the moment an absolute honor and reminding every that queer pop royalty always shows up when it matters.
Front and center in Levi’s first Super Bowl ad in over two decades, Doechii, aka Swamp Princess, swung her hips in classic denim while the camera celebrated everybody’s, ahem, backsides—high art, truly.
Speaking of beautiful backsides, openly lesbian Puerto Rican star, Young Miko, appeared in “La Casita” during Bad Bunny’s performance and immediately went viral when cameras caught her staring at a dancers’ junk in the trunk, gifting the internet a relatable gay moment.
Folk singer, Brandi Carlile, started the night off with a heartfelt performance of “America the Beautiful,” making it clear that it was meant to represent queer people watching at home, adding a softer but still powerful note of visibility to the night. Thanks queen.
And finally, Katseye rocked out in State Farm’s nostalgia play ad, dancing to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” sneaking a dose of global pop-girl liveliness and queer-fan delight into a very dad-coded insurance commercial.
