The Lesbian “I Like You” Confessions We’ll Never Get Over

Callie & Arizona via ABC; Santana via FOX; Ramona & Oona via Prime Video

Your palms are sweating. You’ve repeated your speech over and over in your head. Then, you finally blurt it out. Here is a list of some of our favorite lesbian “I like you” confession moments.

Your palms are sweating. You’ve repeated your speech over and over in your head. Then, you finally blurt it out. We all know that feeling—liking someone and finally letting it slip. It’s exhilarating and completely terrifying, much like the general lesbian experience.

Lucky for us, media has captured that rollercoaster rush of a feeling and we eat it up every time. Whether you’re looking for love confession inspiration or just want to make your heart flutter, here is a list of some of our favorite lesbian “I like you” confession moments.

Izzie & Casey, Atypical

Do you want enemies-to-lovers? A slow-burn friendship that turns into something more? Look no further than Casey and Izzie. When the track teammates first met, their instant hatred of one another immediately signaled that something good was brewing. After tension, forehead promises, pinky touching, and a boatload of longing glances, we finally got the confession to end all confessions.

Santana & Brittany, Glee

While there’s not necessarily a happy ending to this confession scene, seeing Santana finally come to terms with her feelings for Brittany in a tangible way was a win.

Martha & Karen, The Children’s Hour

Heartbreaking. Desperate. Real. There aren’t enough words to describe this iconic confession scene from the classic film The Children’s Hour. Shirley Maclaine, at a time when speeches like this in media were rare, devastatingly utters the inner monologue of all queer girls reckoning with the feelings they so wish they could hide. If you haven’t already watched this film, let this clip convince you to.

Ramona & Oona, Sterling Point

Did Sterling Point just come out? Yes. Are Ramona and Oona already part of the canon of iconic on-screen lesbians? Also yes. The friends-to-lovers arc they gave us was everything. They have it all: the yearning, the jealousy, the tumultuous back-and-forth and the almost kiss when their feelings are finally revealed—what more could we ask for?

They also gave us an unforgettable, hard-earned first kiss scene when Oona is finally ready to admit that she, too, has feelings for Ramona. Amazon Prime, can we get a Season 2 renewal already?

Emma & Nico, Vida

Roberta Colindrez as a motorcycle-driving writer and bartender. Need we say more? Sure, Emma and Nico don’t end up together and Nico is *technically* still legally married, but this confession scene is one for the books.

Callie & Arizona, Grey’s Anatomy

We all remember where we were when this scene happened. What started with this legendary bathroom scene became one of the most well-known and beloved lesbian television couples ever. Callie and Arizona, come back to us!

Emily & Sue, Dickinson

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that a show based on Emily Dickinson would have some intense, deliciously dramatic confession scenes. Sue’s confession after Emily finds her hooking up with a man is no different.

Kat & Adena, The Bold Type

While everything from the smart-casual outfits and the Alessia Cara song gives this scene a 2010s flair, this confession scene is sure to make you swoon.

Héloïse & Marianne, Portrait of a Lady on Fire

“You dreamed of me?” “No, I thought of you.” Come on! Is there anything more romantic than someone telling you that they have been *intentionally* thinking about you? Not in their dreams. Not in their subconscious. Héloïse tells Marianne that she has been imagining their moments together, and really, who could ask for more?

Greta & Carson, A League of Their Own
Let’s hear it for a show that left us too soon! Greta and Carson’s story is one for the ages, and the moment Carson finally admits her feelings will always be remembered in our hearts.

Marissa & Alex, The O.C.

Short-lived but hot, Marissa and Alex’s tide-turning love confession should not be missed. A young Olivia Wilde and Mischa Barton really do capture the giddy, nervous excitement of finally admitting your feelings and we thank them for it.

Jessie & Katie, Once and Again

Another iconic queer Mischa Barton role, Katie and Jessie, played by Evan Rachel Wood, gave us all of the middle-school messiness that comes with growing up queer. While we never got to see their relationship fully develop, the love letter debacle and subsequent confession scene have earned its spot in the queer canon.

This list is only a fraction of the great lesbian confession scenes out there—and hopefully, it’s a list that will only grow longer with time! Here’s to confessing your feelings. Ladies, we’ve got this!
