Tennessee Declares June “Nuclear Family Month” – No Mention Of Pride
In an apparent attempt to overshadow LGBTQ+ Pride month, TN GOP lawmakers designate June as month to celebrate families with “one husband, one wife.”

“WHEREAS, the nuclear family, consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children, is God’s design for familial structure and has been the bedrock of society since the creation of the world… ” Thus reads Tennessee’s House Joint Resolution 182, which designates June as “Nuclear Family Month.”
By April 9, an amended version of this ceremonial gesture (not binding law) had not only passed both chambers, but was signed by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee.
June has historically been Pride month, being the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising—a major queer milestone that served to galvanize a movement. The resolution does not specifically mention intent to diminish Pride for LGBTQ people and allies. They don’t need to. The “one husband, one wife” language makes it clear:
A lengthy paragraph is also devoted to the travails of fatherless homes, suggesting that poverty, abuse, substance addiction, behavioral issues and prison are likely afflictions for families with mothers going solo (or double) at the helm.

After this preamble, the resolution launches into a bizarre assertion that the UN and WHO are conspiring to depopulate the planet: “Tennessee’s values do not align with the humanistic, globalist ideologies of the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and like-minded organizations that fight for population control through the means of promoting sterilization and abortion practices… “
The Republicans of Tennessee are not crediting themselves for reclaiming tradition; per the resolution, it’s the divine plan—”the nuclear family is God’s perfect design for humanity.”
It should be noted that HJR 182’s authors have not cited sources for such proclamations from divine entities. In fact, the Bible itself notes revered patriarchs engaged in polygamy. Prominent figures with multiple wives include Abraham, Jacob and David who reportedly had eight.
