“Good Morning America” icon Robin Roberts married her partner Amber Laign last Friday. The couple have been together since 2005 and finally tied the knot in what Roberts called “an intimate, magical wedding ceremony in our backyard followed by a joyous reception.”
“We are immensely grateful to all for making it a day and a night to remember. Honeymoon here we come!”, Roberts wrote on Instagram under a shot of herself and Laign holding hands in their custom Badgley Mischka wedding gowns. Roberts also posted a video of her siblings dancing to Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It.” The pair were married by Roberts’ childhood pastor, according to “GMA” on Sunday.
Roberts announced her plans to marry Laign in January during a conversation with Gabby Bernstein.
“It was something we had talked about, but we had put it off. She became ill,” Roberts told Bernstein at the time.
Both Laign and Roberts have conquered serious illnesses throughout their relationship. Laign was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2022 and Roberts battled breast cancer in 2007. “She and I have been together almost 17 years and have helped each other through our challenges like my journey with cancer,” Roberts told ET last year.
In 2012, Roberts went public with her myelodysplastic syndrome and underwent a lifesaving bone marrow transplant. With those setbacks behind them, the couple had much to celebrate at their long-awaited wedding.
Last month, Niecy Nash threw a bachelorette party for Roberts and Laign on an episode on “GMA.” At the bachelorette, GMA co-host George Stephanopoulos asked Roberts, “Could 14-year-old Robin Roberts have imagined she’d be having a bachelorette party on national television?” to which she replied, “Uh-uh, no. Especially to a woman.”
“Many people go into marriage hoping for and looking for what Amber and I already know we have, and so ours is a celebration,” Roberts said on “GMA” in August. “We’ve been living our happily ever after through all the ups and downs, so it’s a celebration.”
