‘Love Island USA’ Alum Gets Engaged in Sweet Double Proposal
Kyra Green, contestant on Love Island USA Season 1, popped the question to her girlfriend only to receive her own proposal later the same day.
Love Island USA Season 1’s Kyra Green is officially engaged! While Green didn’t find love in the villa, she made history as the show’s first openly bisexual contestant back in 2019.
Now, at the age of 29, the content creator is engaged to dental student Tal Sahar. In classic queer fashion, Green proposed to Sahar only a few hours before Sahar proposed right back.
“I had spent so much time planning how I was going to surprise her, so the fact that she somehow managed to turn around and surprise me hours later was incredibly special. It truly felt like the perfect double proposal,” Green told PEOPLE.
Green’s proposal to Sahar took place Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden in Pasadena, California and involved an entire fake brand photoshoot to convince Sahar to get her nails, hair and makeup done without raising any eyebrows. Sahar had always dreamed of getting engaged surrounded by nature so the botanical garden paired with Green’s handwritten letter really sealed the deal.
After the engagement, the couple went to a cafe they had gone to on one of their first dates and were joined by their friends and family. Little did Green know, that when they headed to Venice Beach to take photos, Sahar had already planned to pop her own question.
The couple, who met on a dating app years ago, had a dramatic rode to their proposals. After a weekend together, the two lost contact when Sahar went over seas to play basketball. It wasn’t until someone asked Green on a podcast about anyone that she’d dated that she hadn’t stopped thinking about, that the pair decided to try out long distance. Truly a classic queer story through and through!
After the announcement of the proposal, Green posted a video that she had filmed the day before popping the question saying, “I genuinely always dreamt of this moment, this day, just like having my person and being so freaking in love with her…the fact that I get to stand next to her, hopefully, for the rest of my life…I have so much gratitude and I’m so excited and I can’t believe that this is my life.”
