“Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!” the caption read.
Mewis, an American who currently plays for West Ham United, and Kerr, an Australian who plays for Chelsea, started dating in 2020.
The couple went public with their relationship in 2021, after they were seen hugging at the Tokyo Olympics and dating rumors began to spread. Kerr officially shared the first photo of the two on Instagram soon after.
After years of long distance, Kerr got down on one knee. The beautiful couple shared their engagement with fans at the end of 2023, showing off the dazzling ring.
One month later, Mewis signed with West Ham and moved to London to close the long distance gap.
Now, as the two embark on their newest chapter together, fans could not be more excited.
“followed them when they started dating. now here we are. been my inspiration to come out. I love you guys,” one fan commented on their baby announcement.
Danish soccer player Pernille Harder also shared some love in the comments.
“Congraaaaaats 😍😍😍😍😍,” she wrote.
Among the support and well-wishes, the couple’s announcement was also met with unwelcome homophobic comments.
England women’s football manager Sarina Wiegman and a spokesperson for Chelsea have both condemned the hateful comments.
“It is very, very disappointing,” Wiegman said during a news conference on Tuesday. “I’m really happy for them, they look really happy and I hope it all goes well.”
Chelsea echoed the support, stating “there is no place in society for any form of discrimination and we will not accept any abuse directed towards our players, staff or supporters.”
