Kim Petras Is A Sports Illustrated Cover Model & We Are Gagged

Big slay for Petras and her coconuts.

Pop icon Kim Petras is the second transgender woman to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated. Model Leyna Bloom was the first, appearing on the cover in 2021.

Kim Petras was photographed by Yu Tsai in Los Angeles and wore a series of sexy bathing suits by designers Patbo, Frankie’s Bikinis, Natalia Fedner, BANANHOT, and more. The Sports Illustrated swimsuit team said that styling Petras was “an absolute dream.” They wanted the selected set looks to compliment the pop star’s essence as a performer with an otherworldly vibe and soft light. Petras radiated beauty in delicate looks and soft makeup, true to Sports Illustrated’s signature brand.

Petras told Sports Illustrated, “It’s definitely a scary time to be transgender in America, but there’s also so much more representation than there’s ever been, and there’s so many things on the bright side. I do feel a pressure sometimes to represent the trans community with everything I do, because I feel very blessed that I am at this point where I have all these amazing opportunities that I’ve worked really hard for and feel so happy when I hear from trans people in general that they’re inspired by me.”

Kim Petras made history earlier this year as the first transgender woman in history to win a Grammy Award for best pop duo/group performance, for her smash hit “Unholy” with Sam Smith.

Petras newest album, Feed The Beast, will be released on June 23 and will be her first record on a major label. “It’s super exciting to have my Sports Illustrated cover and album announcement happening at the same time!” Petras told PEOPLE Magazine. “[Photographer] Yu Tsai and the whole team at Sports Illustrated made me feel really comfortable and like I belonged there. I had the best time and, honestly, it was a huge confidence boost.”
