Ellen and Portia to Make It Legal

Talk show host and celesbian to wed her partner in California

Talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres and actor Portia de Rossi, girlfriends of four years, are planning a “dream wedding” for October, at which time, the New York Post reports, de Rossi will legally change her last name to DeGeneres.

The couple, who announced their engagement in May after the California Supreme Court’s decision to lift the same-sex marriage ban, is set to have an exclusive wedding ceremony in the state later this year. According to celebrity tabloid Pop Crunch, DeGeneres will not ask de Rossi to sign a prenuptial agreement, saying that she finds the concept “unromantic.” In 2007, DeGeneres was ranked in Forbes magazine as number 17 on its list of the 20 richest women in entertainment. It estimated her net worth at $65 million.

According to Page Six of the New York Post, the two are planning to hold the wedding at the Riviera Resort and Spa in Palm Springs. DeGeneres will fly de Rossi’s family in from Australia for the big day. DeGeneres has said that she will show part of the ceremony on her talk show and release one photo to the press.

When asked how she felt about California’s decision, DeGeneres told The Huffington Post, “How do I feel about it? I obviously feel like it’s long overdue. I think someday people will look back on this like women not having the right to vote, and segregation.”
