The power of gay media does not disappoint.

Doechii is getting on everyone’s radar in a big, gay way.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 aired its second episode Friday, giving us flips, splits, hilarity, and rollerskates. Guest judge Doechii was repping the Swamp in an animal print number and her signature eyetape. Little did she know, her music would climb the charts after this appearance.

The latest lip-sync of the franchise paired the two top girls of the episode, Lexi Love and Crystal Envy, in a showdown to Doechii’s track “Alter Ego.” The song, featuring JT, was released in March 2024. It was a smash hit with Doechii fans but ultimately didn’t have the same reach as some of her other tracks.

Lexi Love was declared victorious in the lip-sync, but viewers weren’t ready to let the song go.

Following the episode, thousands of Drag Race fans flocked to stream the track. By Saturday, “Alter Ego” was #64 on iTunes across all genres. According to Chart Data, the song had its biggest Spotify streaming day ever on Saturday, with 265,000 streams.

The song continued to climb. One day later, it hit #45. “Alter Ego” now sits at #5 on the Top 10 Rap and Hip Hop iTunes chart and officially surpassed 4 million music video views on YouTube.

The power of gay media does not disappoint. Doechii has Lexi Love and Crystal Envy to thank for “Alter Ego”‘s much-deserved ascent into the Top 100.

The Swamp Princess’s mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal also reached new heights last week, hitting #69 on Billboard’s Top 200. Her song “Denial Is A River” debuted at #76 on this week’s Billboard Top 100.

Her star will continue to rise this year. Doechii secured three nominations for the 2025 Grammys, including Best New Artist.
