Department of Education Pushes to Erase Records And Awards Set By Trans Athletes

The new NCAA policy and the Department of Education’s support will rewrite history.

In response to the NCAA’s new policy prohibiting transgender women from competing in women’s sports, the Department of Education has urged the sports organization to erase the records, awards, and titles set by transgender athletes. The decision follows President Donald Trump’s recent executive order, which threatens to strip funding from any federal institution allowing trans women to participate in women’s sports.

The Department of Education, led by Trump-appointed conservative Linda McMahon, sent a request to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) on Tuesday to “restore to female athletes the records, titles, awards, and recognitions misappropriated by biological males competing in female categories.”

Candice Jackson, Deputy General Counsel in the Department of Education, stated, “[T]he Trump Education Department will do everything in our power to right this wrong and champion the hard-earned accomplishments of past, current, and future female collegiate athletes.” This notion of “correction” is in line with the new NCAA policy.

While the policy addresses and targets transgender women in women’s sports, it has no impact on the eligibility of transgender men to compete in men’s sports. A student-athlete can participate, practice, and compete in NCAA men’s sports regardless of their sex assigned at birth or gender identity, as long as they meet all other NCAA eligibility criteria. However, a student-athlete assigned male at birth is not eligible to compete for an NCAA women’s team.

The new NCAA policy and the Department of Education’s support will rewrite history and blatantly erase transgender women athletes. Swimmer Lia Thomas, who became the first openly transgender woman to win an NCAA swimming championship in 2022, could have her title revoked, along with multiple others.

Neither the NCAA nor the NFHS has commented on the request.
