Want to get the word out about legalizing marriage equality in New York? Hire Hollywood actors.
To be fair, the celebs in the Human Rights Campaign’s new video series, debuting today, all live in New York—and more importantly, support marriage equality in the Empire State.
The “New Yorkers for Marriage Equality” campaign aims to raise the public profile of marriage equality leading into this fall’s elections and next year’s legislative session in Albany. The ads will run online for now, with potential TV spots in the future as the legislative fight for marriage equality heats up.
“New York is poised to be on the leading edge of marriage equality and New Yorkers are speaking out to make it happen,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “We hope these high-profile New Yorkers spur every fair-minded citizen to make their voices heard on this critical equality issue.”
Two videos were released today—actress Julianne Moore and designer Kenneth Cole—and more will follow in the coming weeks starring Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, celebrity chef Tom Colicchio, Fran Drescher, Whoopi Goldberg, Moby, tennis great Arthur Ashe’s widow Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, Mark Ruffalo and Rev. Al Sharpton. The videos can be viewed at www.hrc.org/NY4marriage.
The current marriage equality bill failed last year by eight votes in the New York state Senate, despite Governor David Paterson’s support and passage by the state Assembly.
Check out the video starring Julianne Moore, star of the recent lezzie flick “The Kids Are Alright.” Give this woman an Oscar already!
