Brittney Griner Files for Divorce from Wife Cherelle

The WNBA star is reportedly seeking joint custody of the couple’s 2-year-old son, Bash.

Brittney Griner and Cherelle Griner are calling it quits on their 7-year marriage.

Griner filed for divorce in Fulton County, Georgia, on Thursday, July 30, People reports. According to its reporting, Brittney stated that their union was “irretrievably broken.” The duo share a 2-year-old son, Bash, whom Brittney is reportedly seeking joint custody of.

Brittney and Cherelle first met in college in 2009 when they were both attending Baylor University in Waco, Texas. They were engaged in 2018 and married the following year.

When Brittney was arrested in Russia in February 2022 after vape cartridges containing cannabis oil were found in her bag, Cherelle passionately advocated on her behalf, including taking her pleas to then-President Joe Biden. Brittney was eventually released in December 2022.

In 2024, the couple announced that they were welcoming their first child, who was born on July 8, 2024.

The couple has reportedly been separated since July 24, 2026, according to the court documents.
