In conjunction with their Summer of Love exhibit, the Whitney Museum presents Resistance is…, a photographic display documenting American’s period of change and civil unrest in the 1960s, now through Sep 2. Resistance is…features strong holdings of American photography from the ’60s to the present, and expands on the theme of social engagement in the era of liberation and dissent portrayed in Summer of Love. The exhibit considers the relationship between historical narratives and the conditions of social agency prevalent today. Images of demonstrations, portraits of prominent reformers and other interpretations and strategies of resistance are assembled to expose the breadth of our revolutionary consciousness.
