Prepare yourself for a long line of book-loving queers outside Aēsop this weekend!

At Aēsop’s Soho location, the brand’s luxury bottles of skincare and hand soap have been removed from the winding shelves and replaced by queer literature. The yearly event provides free books written by and for queer people (allies are also welcome) in order to extend conversations around pride beyond the month of June. The pop-up library will extend from June 27-30 and will highlight BIPOC, trans, and non-conforming authors and prioritize underrepresented voices.

The Aēsop Queer Library‘s 2024 theme is Support Your Local Library, in collaboration with the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation (ACLU). The library will raise awareness about the need to support local libraries and protect them as a safe space for queer literature, amid nationwide conservative fear surrounding queer stories.

“With local libraries increasingly threatened by book bans and other challenges, the Aēsop Queer Library continues its collaboration with the ACLU to champion and cherish these spaces,” the brand’s website reads.

The library will consist of queer titles recommended by “Aesopians and the ACLU, with an emphasis on BIPOC authors who have faced censorship in the United States,” according to the site.

23 books are available this year. Giovanni’s Room, a classic 1950s novel by James Baldwin will be on the shelves. If you’re looking for more of a collection, look no further than Black Futures, an anthology of Black art and writing  by over 100 contributors. Brittney Griner’s highly anticipated and bestselling autobiography Coming Home details her detainment in Russia and her journey home. Horse Barbie is a memoir by transgender activist and pageant star Geena Rocero.

The main NYC library will pop-up on 60 Gansevoort Street between 11pm-7pm, while supplies last. Addition mobile libraries will be open from 12pm-4pm on certain days at store locations on Broadway, Elizabeth Street, Bleecker Street and 3rd Street.

Mobile editions in LA will pop-up on set days in Silverlake, Larchmont, and Abbot Kinney store locations.
