The Very Best of NY Special Events

HRC Greater New York Gala, Winter Heat, Center Dinner, Stonewall Honors, Original GLBT Expo, Rainbow Book Fair and much more

On Feb 8, celebrate with other members of the community from the tri-state area while raising money for the Human Rights Campaign. HRC Greater New York Gala at the Waldorf-Astoria includes a reception, silent auction, dinner and after-party in the Starlight Room.

If a masquerade party is more your style, The Center presents MASQ at the Bowery Hotel on Feb 8. DJ Whitney Day will keep you dancing at this sexy masquerade ball. Dress to impress (black tie optional; masks encouraged!) and enjoy the all-night open vodka bar and Brazilian Carnaval festivities. All proceeds benefit The Center.

Hit the dance floor on Mar 20 at Stage 48 for Winter Heat, the hottest women’s dance party of the season, hosted by Empire State Pride Agenda and featuring dj.shErOck*. This year's 10th anniversary party promises to be a rousing celebration, as NYC's sexiest women take over one of Hell’s Kitchen’s premier nightclubs. This always sold-out event brings together women and allies representing all members of the LGBT community.

Save the date for the Center Dinner, to be held at Cipriani Wall Street on Apr 3. Buy your tickets now and be sure to dress "cocktail chic" for the Center’s annual fundraising gala. Proceeds benefit the Center’s programs and services for the LGBT community. The night kicks off with a cocktail reception and continues with a sumptuous dinner and live entertainment. Then stay to dance the night away at the hoppin' after-party.

Mark your calendars for Stonewall Honors: A Celebration of LGBTQ Women on Apr 11 at Union Square Ballroom. Stonewall Community Foundation honors those who have promoted the well-being and visibility of women in our community. Attendees will enjoy cocktails, passed hors d'oeuvres, dancing to the stylish spinning of DJ Stacy and a program celebrating this year’s honorees.

On Mar 4, award-winning actor/singer/dancer Ben Vereen—who has appeared in numerous Broadway musicals and in his own one-man shows across the country—will be honored, along with 17 other respected performers, at Gotham Comedy Club's 29th Annual Bistro Awards Gala. The Bistros recognize outstanding achievement in NYC cabaret, jazz and comedy. Multi-Bistro and MAC Award winner, Jeff Harnar, hosts.

The Original GLBT Expo returns to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Mar 22 and 23. Since 1993 the expo has helped to present the finest products and services available to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender consumers, generating over $80 million spent within the greater tri-state area. This includes queer-friendly companies from every industry, both large and small, Fortune 1000 and gay-owned companies. This year’s expo sees the return of the Wedding Pavilion and a sensational lineup of live entertainment.

The sixth annual New York Rainbow Book Fair comes to the Holiday Inn Midtown on Mar 29. We're so looking forward to this exciting event—the biggest, longest-running LGBT book fair in the United States! Last year's event featured over 100 publishers, writers, poets, editors, booksellers and the 1000+ readers who love and buy their books—from the serious to the wild, from the zany to the super-hot. Open to the public, Rainbow Book Fair also offers book discounts and giveaways. Bring a $3 suggested donation and a few friends!

If you're a feminist who loves zines, you'll need to be at Barnard College on Mar 1. The second annual NYC Feminist Zinefest will showcase the latest from feminist zine makers. You can also attend workshops to help you make your own.
