Hollywood, Let Lili Reinhart Make Her Lesbian Vampire Movie Now!
The people have spoken.
Lili Reinhart wants to bring lesbian vampires to a screen near you–if only Hollywood will let it happen.
The Riverdale star recently sat down with Hits Radio as part of her ongoing tour promoting her new movie, The Love Hypothesis, based on a Star Wars fan fic-turned-novel of the same name. While most of the conversation revolved around Reinhart reacting to comments from fans online, at one point, the producer asked whether there’s a specific book she would like to see adapted in the future.
“There is a book—it’s a novella—that I’m trying to get adapted that is about lesbian vampires and people are too afraid to make that,” she replied. “So if you work at a studio and are watching this video, I don’t know why you wouldn’t make that in this day and age. That’s what I’m trying to do.”
The clip has already made a splash online, with a lot of people jumping to the conclusion that Reinhart might be referring to an adaptation of Carmilla, the 1872 Gothic novella from Sheridan Le Fanu. That story has already been adapted or reimagined numerous times, with a recent film adaptation taking place in 2019, only a few years after the beloved web series adaptation premiered in 2015.
Of course, Carmilla isn’t the only lesbian vampire novella that exists, so it’s just as possible Reinhart is referring to an entirely different story. Vampires have been seeing a bit of a resurgence in fiction lately, and queer takes on the genre are certainly among them.
No matter what the specific source material is, fans are definitely interested in whatever Reinhart’s got cooking.
“I need the lesbian vampires movie ASAP,” reads one comment on YouTube, while the clip was posted on X (fka Twitter) with the caption, “lili reinhart trying to get lesbian vampires on our screen, everyone bow down to the real bi-icon.”
With the number of LGBTQ+ characters in films shrinking, per a recent GLAAD report, it’s no surprise that Reinhart is struggling to find a studio willing to take the plunge. Give the people lesbian vampires, you cowards!
