Pink Foxx Finds the Spotlight at The Dinah

The Dinah isn’t just unlike any other event; it’s “iconic,” says stand-up comic Pink Foxx, who is set to make her debut at the legendary lesbian event this October.

This isn’t the first time Foxx has found herself in Palm Springs, reveling with the thousands of lesbian women (and those who love them) who flock to the Southern California desert each year. “I went to Dinah…last year, and it was just such a beautiful environment. It felt welcoming. As a trans woman…I wasn’t really sure if I would be accepted, but I was fully embraced,” Foxx shares.

But this year’s return to the desert won’t just see Foxx enjoying the party; she’ll be bringing it—and the laughter, too—as one of this year’s featured comics alongside Cameron Esposito and host Abe Farrelly.

Foxx couldn’t be more excited to be doing a show for her community. “This is absolutely my favorite type of audience. I don’t have to change any lingo. I don’t have to explain…it’s already understood,” she says. “I’m sure that there will be people that are like, ‘You’re trans, you don’t count,’ and stuff. I just hope that when they hear me do my stand-up, they shift their perspective and at least understand where I’m coming from.”

That hasn’t always been the case for the out-and-proud trans lesbian performer. She recalls taking the stage to find herself looking out at a sea of MAGA T-shirts and other “vocal Trump supporters” during a show in Austin, Texas. “That was the challenge. I’m openly trans. I talk about being queer, and I talk about my girlfriend. And so with these guys, I really had to personalize it and make it about them so that they understood me,” Foxx recalls. “That’s what you’re able to do as a comedian. We just have those extra senses that allow us to feel the energy of the audience and adjust ourselves.” While she rose to the occasion in that situation, there’s definitely something freeing about performing for a queer audience. “I’m ready for an audience of my people, quote unquote,” she says.

She’s also ready to meet some of her fellow performers. This year’s lineup features Hayley Kiyoko, The Aces, Sasha Keable and, most exciting for Foxx, Da Brat.

“I’m a huge hip-hop head…I’ve seen so many rappers that are renowned as the tip-top of the hip-hop community, and so this is one I get to add to my list,” she gushes. The other folks she’s excited to meet this year? The audience. “I know it’s not possible—but I would love to just meet every single person. If somebody sees me after my performance and they want to come say hello, that would make me so happy,” Foxx shares. “I love meeting the people that have sat in my audience. So if you see me, please come say hello.”
