In the days leading up to the 2020 Presidential election, Melania Trump has been very vocal, making claims about her husband’s support for the LGBTQ+ in a few different places.
In a recent video by the Log Cabin Republicans, an LGBTQ+ group that supports the GOP and Donald Trump, Melania appeared to claim her husband is pro-gay, despite a very long list of policies he enacted that say differently.
“I was shocked to discover that some of these powerful people have tried to paint my husband as anti-gay or against equality,” Melania says in the video. “Nothing could be further from the truth.”
In the video, Melania also claims that President Trump is an “outsider” who wants all Americans to thrive. She said that Donald Trump earned criticism from political insiders because of his challenging of the status quo.
Just days before the video was released, Melania made similar claims about her husband at a small rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday. During her speech, Melania criticized the media’s coverage of the President, claiming it misrepresents him. Instead, she described Donald Trump as someone who “sees potential in everyone he meets, no matter their gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation.” However, with dozens of examples that illustrate Trump’s disregard for the LGBTQ+ community (as well as women, non-Christians, and people of color), it’s clear that’s not the truth.
“Donald loves helping people and he loves seeing those around him and his country succeed,” added Melania.
Despite Melania’s statements, Trump is still taking an active stance against the LGBTQ+ community. Since taking office, GLAAD has estimated that the Trump administration is responsible for at least 181 attacks on the queer community — one roughly every 7 days.
