Orange Is The New Black Has Finished Filming And We’re Crying

We’ll miss the ladies of Litchfield!

Grab some tissues, because Orange Is The New Black is officially coming to an end. We found out last year that Season 7 of the hit show would be the last and now the show has wrapped filming on the final episode in the series. The show, which started in 2013 is based on the best selling memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman. Kerman’s book tells the story of spending a year in a women’s prison, and the show drew on that experience to create a dramatic comedy of epic proportions. The show is also known for its respectful treatment of gender and sexuality during the series and for hiring diverse actors for roles in the show.

Now, the creators and actors are saying goodbye to seven years inside the fictional Litchfield penitentiary with a series of sweet social media posts celebrating the show. After counting down the days until wrapping up filming, show creator Jenji Kohan posted a picture of the cast and crew gathered on the Litchfield Prison set with the caption “This is a family.”

Piper Kerman herself was also on set of the last day of filming and shared a video tour of the Litchfield set with fans on Instagram.

Natasha Lyonne, who plays Nicky Nichols on the show, said “a guttural sound came out of me, like some wounded animal” after she finished filming the last episode.

The final season of the series is expected to premiere this summer, and the cast and crew aren’t giving many hints about what to expect. Several cast members told The Hollywood Reporter that fans could expect “surprises” in Season 7, but that the show would have a “satisfying” ending.

If you can’t wait for Season 7 after seeing all these Instagram posts, you can binge Seasons 1-6 on Netflix.
