For Pride Month 2024, Brooklyn Art Haus (BAH) is pleased to present the exhibition Queer Continuum: Archival, Avant-Garde and Beyond. The exhibition includes photography by queer people of all backgrounds to show the history and progression of queer joy and resilience, as well as imagined depictions of LGBTQ+ futures. This show is the curatorial debut of creative Jules Diaz Petta, in collaboration with emerging curator Nikki Myers.

The show features works by artists Carlos Hernandez, Nina Osoria Ahmadi, Lou Lauren, Deb Brunswick, and Jules Diaz Petta.

Hernandez’s work features reimagined portrayals of sexualized queer femininity through Playboy magazine mock-ups, while also addressing the concept of ‘queer world-making through futurist and alien aesthetics. Osoria Ahmadi’s work pertains to the queer self and others through bodily transition and unrest in relation to the natural world. Lauren’s work shows the underrepresented details of sapphic eroticism through her black and white photographs. Brunswick’s photos show a day at Riis Beach, a section of the Rockaways associated with queer culture and freedom that has gone through substantial changes over the years. Finally, Diaz Petta’s work bridges the timeline between 90s lesbian fashion and modern queer fashion, highlighting the undeniable influence it has in today’s styles. All of these photographs come together to represent a diverse set of queer experiences, past, present and future.
