Queer Art Fest Inc. Is Back With QUEER ART SUMMERFEST 2022: One of NYC’s Largest LGBTQIA+ Marketplaces.

Brooklyn-based nonprofit Queer Art Fest Inc. returns to 3 Dollar Bill for year two of QUEER ART SUMMERFEST on Saturday June 18th, waiving vendor fees for 40+ Queer artists, merchants, and business owners.

(Brooklyn, NYC | May 24, 2022) This June during Pride Month, Brooklyn-based nonprofit Queer Art Fest Inc. returns to Bushwick’s 3 Dollar Bill on June 18th for year two of QUEER ART SUMMERFEST: One of New York City’s largest Queer marketplaces and performance festivals, created specifically for and by LGBTQIA+ business owners.

The event boasts an expanded roster of 40+ merchants and performers, along with eliminated vendor fees – providing a complimentary footprint for all participating artists & makers at a tenuous moment for members of the Queer creator economy.

“The central mission of this year’s event is to support the economic empowerment of these incredible artists, and give them a platform to monetize their work,” says Queer Art Fest Inc. co-founder Carlos Garcia. “At a moment where the Queer creators are being shadow-banned and censored on social media platforms, we aim to create a safe space where they can share their work and sell their wares amongst members of their community.”

Shadow-banning is the term used to refer to the removal or obscuring of content from social media platforms that goes against “community guidelines,” which often time are rooted in heteronormative constructs of acceptability. For artists within the Queer Art Fest network, whose works pull from influences of erotica and the body positivity movement, this type of censorship not only impedes on self-expression, but visibility in the feed — which in turn, has monetary implications.

Now in year two, SUMMERFEST is Queer Art Fest’s biggest event of the year, attracting approximately 1,000 attendees in 2021 for a full-day marketplace and performance lineup of local drag queens and performers. This year, SUMMERFEST returns to 3 Dollar Bill with an expanded outdoor footprint featuring wine tastings by BABE Wine, early attendee door gifts, courtesy of Scent Trunk, Aneros, Areaware, Empower Oil & more plus complimentary iced coffee, courtesy of Queer-owned Four Corners Coffee.

Participating artists and vendors featuring within the marketplace span multiple categories, including photography, zines, home goods, baked goods, fashion, fine art and more. Performances and raffle prize draws will be ongoing throughout the day.

SUMMERFEST is a 21+ event. Admission is free, with all raffle ticket proceeds supporting Queer Art Fest Inc.’s organization and future programming.
