Women’s professional baseball is stepping out of the shadows and back into the spotlight! The Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) has officially unveiled its first four teams, setting the stage for a historic 2026 season.

For decades, women have been knocking on baseball’s door—playing in backyard leagues, on college fields, and in amateur tournaments—but never in a professional league dedicated solely to them. The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which inspired “A League of Their Own,” folded back in the 1950s, and since then, women’s baseball has mostly stayed under the radar.

That’s where the WPBL comes in. Founded in 2024 by Justine Siegal, the first woman to coach for an MLB team, and Keith Stein, CEO of the Toronto Maple Leafs baseball team, the league aims to bring women’s baseball back to mainstream sports. The response has been phenomenal. The WPBL official Instagram page has already amassed more than 47,000 followers, all eager to see what this league will bring to the sport.

The first season, scheduled to launch in May, will feature four teams across major baseball cities: New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Each city carries its own rich history and a passionate fan base ready to welcome women who have been overlooked for way too long. Tryouts held this past August attracted over 600 players, a clear indication that demand and talent have been present all along.

Here’s a closer look at what each city brings to the league’s inaugural season.

New York

“Grit. Glamor. Greatness.” Few cities embody baseball quite like New York. As one of baseball’s iconic hubs, New York sets the stage for the WPBL to shine under the brightest lights in sports.

Boston

“Where the past meets progress.” Boston’s known for its die-hard fans and rich history. This team will bring a fresh attitude and new energy to the field.

Los Angeles

“Bright lights. Boundless energy.” From the city’s vibrant art scene to its trailblazing communities, this team will bring some style and serious game-day energy to the league.

San Francisco

“Innovation meets tradition.” San Francisco will be fearlessly shaking it up with plenty of Bay Area flair.

Stay posted on the WPBL’s official account to hear more about the teams, players, mascots, and all the exciting stories coming your way. This league is gearing up to hit it out of the park—and you won’t want to miss a single moment!
