WLW Twitter Is Obsessed With Lucy Dacus’ New Solo Music And So Are We

Years after last releasing solo music, queer musician Lucy Dacus has returned to public life ahead of her new album 'Forever is a Feeling.'

This is not a drill. Lucy Dacus is back, and the sapphic internet is exploding.

Three years after last releasing solo music, the famed member of the band boygenius has returned to the spotlight to promote her forthcoming album, Forever is a Feeling, and release two tracks, “Ankles” and “Limerence.”

“Ankles,” the album’s first single, is a whimsical, hopelessly romantic swirl of yearning. The song features a swelling string section and playful lyrics, perfectly capturing the excited chaos of intense desire.

The song’s music video, starring Bottoms actress Havana Rose Liu, was released alongside the song earlier this month.

In the video, Dacus plays a woman who has escaped from a painting to run around Paris clad in a billowing Rodarte ball gown. Liu plays the stoic museum security guard who runs after Dacus to secure her safe return to the museum, where Liu spends her time admiring Dacus’ portrait.

Fans, who have been patiently waiting for Dacus’ return, could not contain their excitement about this first peek into the singer’s next era.

Some fans note the music video’s similarity to the 2019 queer film “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” and Dacus seemingly confirmed the correlation by reposting this fan’s tweet.

The sexual nature of “Ankles” showcased a new side of Dacus, with lyrics like “Pull me by the ankles to the edge of the bed / and take me like you do in your dreams.” Fans weren’t complaining, to say the least.

Dacus continued her return to the public eye, performing “Ankles” on the Tonight Show January 16 and announcing a forthcoming tour with trans musician jasmine.4.t and Katie Gavin of MUNA.

With her return to the spotlight and 11 new songs to be released on March 28, Lucy Dacus fans know they have much to look forward to and comment that her return is exactly what they’ve needed.
