What Are the Most Polyamorous Cities And States in the U.S.?
Non-monogamy platform Sister Wives took a look at its user data to examine where those looking for polyamorous experiences are based.
A dating platform’s new report examines the ever-changing relationship Americans have with monogamy and takes a look at what cities and states are most interested in polyamory.
The company Sister Wives – no, not the TLC show – which is a dating and matchmaking platform for those who are interested in the various shapes of non-monogamy, released the report earlier this month.
About a third of Americans have said that their ideal relationship falls outside of monogamy, the company notes, citing a YouGov study. Only seven percent of people said monogamy was “natural.”
Sister Wives also points to cities across the country that have increasingly been passing laws protecting non-monogamous people from discrimination in housing and employment.
The new report is based on Sister Wives’ own numbers and user count of 14,090 email-verified U.S. member profiles. Here are the cities and states it found were most interested in polyamory.

Last month, Seattle City Council passed a bill that extended civil rights protections to non-monogamous residents. Other local governments, including those of Cambridge and Somerville in Massachusetts and Berkeley and Oakland in California, have passed similar measures, according to The Guardian, which reports that Seattle was the 10th city in the U.S. to have these policies in place.
Similar laws are being proposed and drafted in cities like Baltimore, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, according to advocates.
