The queer comedian and former late-night host has no plans to hold punches.

Amber Ruffin is set to take the dais to headline the 2025 White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 26, an event the president is all but certain to avoid like the plague. In a recent interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Ruffin revealed she’s prepared to throw out some of the advice she’s received from fellow comedians about making sure to spread the humor evenly across all political figures.

“I think I’m going to do it the same way I always do it by just telling the truth about how I feel,” she said. The comedian and former late-night host has no plans to hold punches, particularly when it comes to figures like Trump, who she said no one would be excited to share a room with. During his first term, Trump opted to skip the event.

Ruffin, who came out as queer last Pride on Instagram, will certainly have no shortage of material to work with. The challenge will be striking the right balance between the absurdity and the downright dour state of national politics. We will definitely be tuning in.
