The Very Best Of NYC Music

Liza’s at the Palace, and the Brooklyn Philharmonic

Liza Minnelli’s show Liza’s at the Palace…! has been extended for two weeks due to popular demand! Running through Dec 28 at the Palace Theatre, this show includes a twelve-piece orchestra and a piano to support the doe-eyed diva for the first half while she belts out some of our favorite show-stopping hits. In the second half she pays tribute to her godmother, Kay Thompson (a multi-talented legend in her own right), by performing some of Thompson’s famous nightclub numbers with some help from a quartet of singer/dancers. This show is getting rave reviews and is a rare chance to be transported to the nightclubs of the 40s and 50s where Ms. Minnelli will exhaust herself to entertain you with her dancing…from the waist up.  (She might not be a nimble young thing, but she sure knows how to fake it!)

On Jan 25, in conjunction with Burning Down the House: Building a Feminist Art Collection and the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, the Brooklyn Philharmonic will perform at the Brooklyn Museum as part of their Music Off the Walls series. Commissioning and presenting the works of living composers, the series explores the definitions of a traditional chamber concert by combining live music with multimedia imagery.
