Gotham Arts Exchange, in association with the Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at NYU, presents the annual presentation of Dance Gotham on Sunday, Jan 9. This annual dance festival returns for its fifth year, presenting a thrilling range of aesthetics and artistry. From post-modern athleticism to seasoned theatricality, the artists offer choreographic works that are sophisticated, witty, wonderfully intelligent and revealing.
The DASH Ensemble, Helios Dance Theater, Camille A. Brown & Dancers, and CorbinDances present two evenings of shared work Jan 7-8 at Dance Theater Workshop. Helios Dance Theater will present excerpts from Beautiful Monsters, which explores the boundaries between the physical body and the imagination in a romance that defies human limitations; the piece examines the deep desires of childhood, romance and magic through movement, music and imagery. The DASH ensemble will present excerpts from two pieces: The duet Sundowning takes audiences through a daring display of deep connections between its characters and the connections they make within themselves through both real and imaginative circumstances and Just Go on with Your Life…, a piece for five dancers created through a series of in-depth interviews of graphic and visual artists about their artistic processes.
