This year’s Lincoln Center Out of Doors, featuring three weeks of free music and dance on the plazas of Lincoln Center, will run from Aug 5–23. The 39th annual edition of the festival will present a wide range of dance and music events by dozens of international, U.S. and local artists, highlighted by New York, U.S. and world premieres and debuts and special commissions. Don’t miss Hip Hop Generation Next, a showcase of transnational b-boy culture presented in collaboration with Dancing in the Streets.
Check out the hottest flamenco show of the summer in NYC at the Players Theatre, June 25–27. Omayra Amaya (grand niece of Carmen Amaya) performs authentic flamenco with composer/guitarist Roberto Castellon, Grammy award nominated salsa maestro Gonzalo Grau, and cast of singers and dancers from Spain.
The Out Like That! Festival at BAAD!—The Bronx Academy of Art & Dance—defiantly returns for its ninth year of keeping it queer in the Bronx. The festival kicks off on June 11 and continues to June 20 with luscious line-up of dance, theatre, film, art and wonderful performances by drag kings and queens. BAAD!, crowned a funky and welcoming performance space by the New York Times, creates, supports and presents works in all creative disciplines that are empowering to women, people of color and the LGBT community.
