GO MAGAZINE’S 5th ANNUAL READERS’ CHOICE NIGHTLIFE AWARDS, MAY 1

Stop the presses! New talent and special guests are continually being added to the red-hot roster for the Fifth Annual GO Magazine Readers’ Choice Nightlife Awards!

As anyone in the know should know by now, the party of the year is taking place May 1 at the swanky new XL Nightclub. This hotspot is part of the just-unveiled Out NYC complex in Hell’s Kitchen, the city’s first (straight-friendly) gay hotel—and the GO Nightlife Awards will be its inaugural lesbian event. Olivia is the presenting sponsor of this not-to-be-missed extravaganza.

Now, back to the lineup! Foxy rock combo Hunter Valentine will headline the night with a blistering set of original anthems. Tiny birds are telling us that this band is going places, but we can’t reveal the details just yet! Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to catch them before they blow up—so you can say you knew them back in the day.

Up-and-coming singer/model Doxi Jones and reigning Miss LEZ Sophia Urista will warm up the crowd with vocal performances guaranteed to singe the stage, so stand back! In between sets, killer DJs Zuleica and Lezz Van Halen will spin danceable mashups on the city’s hottest sound system. Emcee Murray Hill will keep the show running smoothly and the audience in line.

Naturally, the highlight of the evening is the awards ceremony. Think about it: 180 nominees are competing in 40 different categories, ranging from Best Brooklyn Bar to Hottest Eye Candy—and you voted for the winners! It’s the lesbian community’s chance to show its support and appreciation for the nightlife nabobs who watch the doors, pour the drinks, spin the records and keep the bars open and thriving, year after year.

Most importantly, every nominee and attendee will participate in this year’s charity initiative, “Nightlife Gives Back.” The full 100 percent of proceeds from the sale of nominees’ tickets will be donated to the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, New York City’s only health clinic dedicated to the LGBT community.

Visit gomag.com to purchase $15 advance general admission tickets—and get ‘em while they’re hot! The price goes up to $25 at the door if any tickets remain. Don’t miss your chance to hobnob with the queens of New York’s nightlife scene.

Latin Twist Spring Fling, April 29

In our last issue, Las Reinas suspended their weekly Sunday party, Mixx, at Bar 13—leaving Latin music aficionadas temporarily without a Las Reinas event to end their weekend. Now, the girls are returning to Bar 13 with an appropriately celebratory blowout, the Latin Twist Spring Fling, on April 29. Plan to kick off the season at the Union Square bar’s spacious rooftop with an afternoon-to-night party, beginning with free salsa lessons and a scrumptious buffet of Latin snacks until 9pm. Afterwards, the bi-level bar throws open the second floor for DJs spinning Latin pop, house, R&B, hip hop and more booty-shaking beats. Bust out your moves if you dare!

ForPlay, Tuesdays

Continuing Bed-Stuy’s evolution into Brooklyn’s hippest ‘hood for queer revels, ForPlay at the chic Vodou Bar adds a new night to the borough’s weekly party calendar. Brought to you by the girls behind the annual Laid parties, ForPlay aims for a social mixer-like vibe in Vodou Bar’s lounge-y, relaxed atmosphere. The club offers elegant nibbles from the nouveau Caribbean menu and special cocktails designed by Darryl Robinson, host of Drink Up on the Cooking Channel. A different roster of DJs each week provides the dancehall and R&B soundtrack. Now get on your bikes and ride over to the newest local hotspot!

Girl Hunt, May 12

The lesbian invasion of Hell’s Kitchen (see GO’s Nightlife Awards, left) continues apace with the new bash Girl Hunt at Vlada. DJ Susan Levine and Danielle Presents have teamed up for a sexy circus once a month, complete with feisty go-go vixens, lap dances for the ladies, prurient videos on the flat screens courtesy of lesbian porn purveyor Juicy Pink Box, and a take-no-prisoners mistress on hand to keep the girls begging for more! All this in an intimate gay boite with Russian overtones, like a menu featuring sultry caviar concoctions and infused vodka cocktails. Bump and grind to Susan Levine’s mix of upbeat bangers on the second Saturday of every month!

Mix Tape, Tuesdays

Downloading a bunch of songs to an iPod doesn’t have the same emotional effect as creating a mix tape of your favorite tunes for the girl you’re wooing (at least to writers of a certain age, ahem). Admit your nostalgia for cassingles and the days before iTunes at Mix Tape, the fancy-free frolic at Henrietta Hudson every Tuesday. Sir Sabrina and DJ Kim Dazy mix and match east and west, old school and new, retro and futuristic and that which cannot be defined into a new soundtrack for our times. But wait—there’s more! Seasonal cocktail special to wet your whistle, happy hour with two-for-one drinks from 5-7pm, and Kim Dazy’s early set of hip hop, dance and retro anthems will get you in the mood.

GIRLNATIONNYC, SATURDAYS

Now every Saturday night, Hana’s perennially popular weekend blast GirlNationNYC has settled into its new(ish) home, Bread & Tulips. This chic and cozy watering hole begins each night as an Italian bistro specializing in locally-sourced dishes, then morphs into a bangin’ bar filled to the brim with beautiful babes. Hana lines up a stellar roster of the scene’s hottest DJs to keep the party fresh and unpredictable—and the regular rounds of free shots and available bottle service keep the revelers well lubricated. For a double dose of GNNYC, hit the additional once-a-month event at the legendary Stonewall Inn, now on the first Friday of every month.
