America’s favorite Midwest Princess reveals she is considering taking a step back due to inappropriate fan behavior: “People have started to be freaks.”
In a interview on the podcast The Comment Section with Drew Afualo, Chappell Roan says she’s “pumped the brakes” on media attention for now. Roan says fans “follow me and know where my parents live, and where my sister works. All this weird shit.”
The ‘Good Luck Babe’ singer says things have gotten downright scary. She promised herself a few years ago that she would step away from the spotlight if things became dangerous, and now she just might.
“I said if [there were] stalker vibes [and my] family was in danger is when I would quit,” she said. “And we’re there. We’re there!”
“I’m just kind of in this battle,” she continued. “I’ve like pumped the brakes on honestly anything to make me more known. It’s kind of a forest fire right now … I’m not trying to go do a bunch of shit.”
The 26-year-old has been dealing with a whirlwind of fame since the release of her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Her over-the-top looks, including a recent ode to the Statue of Liberty at Governor’s Ball, and distinct voice have drawn comparisons to iconic pop stars like Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Cyndi Lauper.
While Roan is going back and forth about how to move forward with her new status as “your favorite artist’s favorite artist,” she told Afualo there’s a few things she can’t help but miss.
“Drugs. Drugs in public. That’s what I miss,” Roan joked. “Rolling up, being a fucking freak at the bar,” she continued, “or making out with someone at the bar.”
With this, Roan reminds us she’s just like us and appreciates the simple pleasures in life, so stop being weird and let her have fun in peace.
