The 37th Annual GLAAD Media Awards are set to spotlight some of the biggest names in entertainment on March 5, with a March 21 streaming debut on Hulu. Among this year’s top honorees are Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, and Matt Rogers, each recognized for shaping the cultural conversation around LGBTQ lives in distinct ways.
Brunson will receive the Vanguard Award, an honor presented to allies who have significantly advanced acceptance of LGBTQ people and issues. The Emmy and Golden Globe winner is being recognized for her work on Abbott Elementary, the network comedy she created and stars in. Over its run, the series has woven LGBTQ characters and storylines into its ensemble fabric with a “nothing-to-see-here” ease.
As Brunson has so famously said, “People be gay.” Too true, too true.

Abbott Elementary is also nominated this year for Outstanding Comedy Series. Its fellow nominees include Hacks, Survival of the Thickest, and a slate of other comedies that have expanded the range of voices and perspectives on television.
Yang and Rogers will be honored with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, which recognizes LGBTQ media professionals who have significantly increased visibility and promoted acceptance. Named for a casting director who fought homophobia and HIV stigma in Hollywood, the award has previously been presented to artists such as Cynthia Erivo, Niecy Nash-Betts, Laverne Cox, Wanda Sykes, and Jim Parsons.
