The beautiful people were out in force to celebrate the launch of celesbian photographer Maro’s online portfolio, MaroHagopian.com, at the Union Square Lounge October 22. Slides of Maro’s famed shots—dazzlingly colorful, poignant and ultra-glamorous—were projected against a white wall, forming the backdrop for artsy schmoozing. As the longtime photographer for NYC’s best lesbian parties, as well as BowieBall and other queeny-sceney happenings, Maro has amassed a stunning collection of portraits and journalistic works that chronicle the New York underground in the 21st century.
The highlight of the evening came when Maro and able auctioneer Ellie Conant raffled off two original prints: a portrait of recently-deceased Hollywood legend Dennis Hopper and candid shot of a soon-to-be-famous Lady Gaga, backstage at the NewNowNext Awards in 2008. Two lucky ladies went home with the collectors’ items.
