JoJo Siwa is going back to her Dance Moms roots with brand new unscripted docuseries following the 21 year old’s personal life.
A report from Variety revealed Siwa will be partnering up with Dance Moms creator Jeff Collins to work on the untitled series. In line with her “gay pop” rebrand, the series will take on a completely different tone and follow her as she navigates adult life.
Resilient Content, Collins’ TV production company at Sony Pictures, plans to show Siwa “evolving from the beloved child star audiences adored on screen.” The series plans to show the “Karma” singer managing her first record deal and living alone for the first time, all while juggling performances, appearances, and her multiple businesses.
With over 70 million followers across social media, her online reach is undeniable. Whether you’re a hate-watcher or a fan, she’s your “guilty pleasure,” as she declares in her in her upcoming single of the same name. While viewers have been locked into Siwa’s life on the internet, the docuseries will showcase an unfiltered side in contrast with her curated image.
“The storylines will emanate from JoJo, told in first person by her and those within her inner circle,” Resilient Content said in a statement. “For the first time, audiences will get a glimpse of the persona as she reveals who she is in the quiet moments away from the blaring lights of the stage.”
Siwa confirmed the series on Instagram Tuesday with the caption: “Here’s your seatbelt. Buckle up.”
The announcement comes days before Siwa’s EP Guilty Pleasure is set to release July 12. Along with her viral song “Karma”, which turned heads with a few hump-y performances, the track list also features “Balance Baby”, “Yesterday’s Tommorrow’s Today”, “Choose Your Fighter”, and “Guilty Pleasure”. A music video for the latter is also set to release the same day.
