Best Out Director – Film
Clea DuVall. It’s easy to be skeptical about an actor’s transition behind the camera—just because they’re great in front of it doesn’t always indicate a smooth translation. But Clea DuVall’s directorial debut “The Intervention” (which she also wrote, BTW), evinced that she can carry an ensemble in both cases. Smart, hilarious and with all of her best friends playing alongside her, Clea created a fantastic film, and even put herself in a starring role as a sexualized, confident but conflicted lesbian.
