GO’s Best of Lesbian/Bi/Queer Women Pop Culture 2016
2016 has been ripe with bad news, hard losses and tragic events, right up until the very end. But there was a lot to celebrate for queer women as well that should not go unmentioned as we close another year. This is GO’s list of the best in Lesbian/Bi Pop Culture.
Best Out Director – TV
Tina Mabry. The filmmaker behind the heart wrenching 2009 indie “Mississippi Damned” was both a producer and director on OWN’s “Queen Sugar” adaptation, which boasted all women directors under the helm of Ava DuVernay. Tina’s episodes (“Give Us This Day” and “Far Too Long”) were among the strongest, and she likely had a lot of say in the series’ bisexual lead character, Nova, played by “True Blood” alum Rutina Wesley.
