The Mile High City is going for gold as it competes with Perth to host the Gay Games.

The Mile High City is ready to raise the bar—and the rainbow flag! Denver has officially launched its bid to host the Gay Games in 2030, aiming to bring the global celebration of LGBTQ+ sport, culture, and community to Colorado.

“Let’s show the world that Colorado is a place where we champion rights for all while creating a championship atmosphere for every athlete,” said Colorado Governor Jared Polis, the state’s first openly gay governor, in a promotional video for the city’s Gay Games campaign. The video, which launched the slogan “Together, out west,” highlights LGBTQ+ leaders and athletes from Colorado.

Organized every four years by the Federation of Gay Games since 1982, the Gay Games is one of the largest all-inclusive sporting events in the world, welcoming thousands of athletes of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and athletic abilities. With events ranging from swimming and soccer to dance and darts, the Games celebrate both competition and community, and Denver wants to be the next city to carry that torch.

In late April, the city began promoting itself as the ideal backdrop for one of the world’s largest all-inclusive sporting events. And now, from July 15-18, it’s undergoing a four-day inspection by the Federation of Gay Games, which will determine whether the proposed venues in the city can host the event’s 36 sporting events and full schedule of cultural happenings.

The presumptive host city for the 2030 Gay Games will be announced on October 28, 2025, one year before the 2026 Games in Valencia, Spain. As Denver waits to find out if it will host the event, the city has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to help the Gay Games Denver team travel to Valencia, where they must deliver an in-person presentation as part of the selection process.
