"Finding Dory" May Feature Disney’s First Lesbian Characters

A brief clip in Disney Pixar's trailer for "Finding Dory" has LGBT equality advocates hoping that the film may feature the first lesbian couple in the animation company's history.

A three-second clip in the trailer for the upcoming animated flick “Finding Dory” may showcase Disney Pixar’s first on-screen lesbian couple.

The clip features a very brief scene in which a toddler drops her sippy cup after being knocked over by a baby stroller. One of the two women walking by scoops up the cup and says, “Poor baby, let me get that for you.”

The clip is extremely short and it’s possible the two women are just standing next to one another or friends. However, social media are atwitter with the prospect that the women could prove to be “together.”

The “Finding Dory” speculation comes on the heels of a series of social media campaigns aimed at getting Disney Pixar to feature more LGBT characters in their movies.

In early May, the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend began trending on Twitter as fans urged Disney to make Elsa a lesbian princess in the sequel to “Frozen.”

The main character in “Finding Dory” (“Dory”) is voiced by Ellen DeGeneres.

Disney has neither confirmed nor denied buzz surrounding the trailer.
