Chappell Roan has just introduced the new lesbian anthem.
The “Good Luck, Babe” singer made her debut appearance on Saturday Night Live November 2 and certainly left a mark on the stage. Roan surprised fans by performing her new song “The Giver” for the first time.
The midwesterner set the stage perfectly for her new country anthem. Her all-female band and back-up singers were dressed in denim and Western-inspired button downs. Cartoon animals were animated on the screens, and wagon wheels and barrels were displayed on stage.
Roan showed up in a pink-and-white gingham halter crop top and mini shorts to match. Light blue bows adorned the sides of her outfit, and she topped it off with a pair of cowboy boots and arm cuffs.
As the lights went up in the studio, Roan began the song poking fun at the “country boy quitter.”
“Ain’t got antlers on the walls/ But I sure know mating calls,” she sang. “…Other boys may need a map/ But I can close my eyes/ And have you wrapped around my fingers like that.”
Roan danced around the stage, shining under the lights, as the twangy music played behind her.
“You ain’t gotta tell me/ It’s just in my nature,” she continued. “So take it like a taker, cause baby I’m a giver.”
During the song’s bridge, Roan sank down to her knees and stared into the camera to deliver a very special message: “All you country boys saying you know how to treat a woman right- well, only a woman can treat a woman right!”
As the audience erupted in cheers at the statement, Roan continued to belt out that she “gets the job done.”
The raunchy country-pop song has popped up all over social media, but sadly has not been released yet. Fans have been anticipating a country single after her producer revealed details of her next album last month.
Another hint popped up on the singer’s own Instagram page October 25. In a carousel of polaroid photos, Roan teased the lyric, “She gets the job done.”
Earlier in the show, Roan also performed one of her top hits, “Pink Pony Club,” in a look reminiscent of the Bride of Frankenstein. Dressed in a floor-length white dress and massive red wig with white streaks, Roan showed off her unique vocals while lights strobed and smoke filled the stage.
