In a new interview with Vogue, Billie Eilish opened up about the strain of her fame, saying she wishes “no one knew anything about my sexuality or dating.”
The interview, published Tuesday, delves into her unplanned coming-out last year. An off-the-cuff comment she made to a Variety reporter about being attracted to girls suddenly made headlines, and has been mentioned in nearly every interview Eilish has done since.
“I guess I also underestimate that things I say will be blown up into the biggest news of the whole world,” the “Birds of a Feather” singer said.
Earlier this year, her sexuality was on the front page of tabloids once again after an interview with Rolling Stone. She candidly discussed masturbation and was quoted saying she wanted her “face in a vagina,” a sentence that spiraled out of her control. Later in the Rolling Stone interview, Eilish admitted to being a chronic over-sharer, which is only maximized by her massive spotlight.
The 22-year-old is taking the narrative into her own hands. She told Vogue that her private life will stay private from now on.
“I wish no one knew anything about my sexuality or anything about my dating life. Ever, ever, ever,” she said. “And I hope that they never will again. And I’m never talking about my sexuality ever again. And I’m never talking about who I’m dating ever again.”
Eilish has grown up in the public eye, after rising to fame when she was only 13 with her single “Ocean Eyes.” She’s openly dealt with body dysmorphia, panic attacks, depression, and Tourette’s syndrome in the public eye.
“We’re all babies,” she told Vogue.” We’re all little kids growing up and learning ourselves.”
Eilish just embarked on her sold out Hit Me Hard And Soft Tour earlier this month with special guests Nat & Alex Wolff, Towa Bird, The Marías, Ashnikko, and Finneas.
