Amazon Confirms ‘A League of Their Own’ Ending

It’s official: ALOTO is ending with an abbreviated run.

On March 14, The Hollywood Reported disappointed lesbians everywhere by spilling the unofficial beans that A League Of Their Own will conclude with a mere four episode run. The news sparked a campaign amongst online fans for #morethanfour by those who wanted more of the sensational limited series.

Fans weren’t ready for the series, co-created by star Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham, to end. ALOTO famously put queer and Black stories from the real All American Girls Professional Baseball League at the center of its plot.

Today, the news was formally announced in a press release from Amazon that followed months of negotiations with Sony Pictures Television.

“We’re deeply proud of the work that Abbi, Will, the cast, and crew have done reimagining A League of Their Own which has produced an incredibly loyal fan base as well as achieved numerous, well-deserved recognitions and accolades,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon and MGM Studios. “After hearing what Abbi, Will, and the writing team have planned for the new story within this wonderful series, we are excited for our fans to see what comes next.”

The writers room has been working on the limited second series for the past month. Like the Hollywood Reported earlier reported, Amazon negotiated with Sony to lower the show’s licensing fee.

“Making this show and seeing the impact it has had in the world has been an incredible joy,” creators Graham and Jacobson said in a joint statement Wednesday. “While obviously we were hoping for 11 seasons, we’re grateful to be able to continue to tell the story of these characters and this world.”

The first season of ALOTO was met with rave reviews. It currently has a 94% rating among critics and an 87% score among views according to Rotten Tomatoes. The show also won a GLAAD award for outstanding new TV series.
