21-year-old supermodel Alex Consani is taking the modeling world by storm and making history as she does it.
This year’s ‘it girl’ became the first out transgender woman to be awarded Model of the Year at the British Fashion Council’s 2024 Fashion Awards in London. She walked the red carpet in a gorgeous Dilara Findikoglu corseted dress with Union Jack-patterned draping.
Consani, who began modeling in 2015 at only 12 years old, used her acceptance speech to thank all the beautiful and trailblazing trans women who came before her.
“I can’t accept this award without thanking those who came before me, specifically the Black trans women who really fought for the space I’m in today–Dominique Jackson, Connie Fleming, Aaron Rose Phillips and countless more who fought for the space that allowed me to flourish today,” she said Monday.
Consani was presented Monday’s award by fellow model Ashley Graham, who also made history as the first plus size model to grace the covers of Sports Illustrated and Vogue.
Baby Reindeer actress Nava Mau, the first trans woman to receive an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, also presented the award.
“Change is more than possible; it’s needed,” Consani ended her speech to roaring applause.
Consani’s barrier-breaking didn’t start here. The supermodel has had quite the year.
In October, she became one of the first two trans women to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, alongside Valentina Sampaio. She was also named one of Vogue’s Standout Models of Spring/Summer 2023, and was included on GLAAD’s 20 Under 20 list in 2022.
Her track record of runways has been nothing less than flawless. She made her runway debut in 2021, walking for Tom Ford. Since then, she has racked up high-profile designers, including Alexander McQueen, Burberry, and Versace.
Consani managed to expand her fame beyond the modeling universe and into mainstream content. The model has nearly 4 million loyal followers on TikTok due to her no-holds-barred comedic videos. Her personality even shines through during red carpet interviews, proving you can be hot and funny.
