8 Moments From the ‘Wrong Girls’ Trailer That Have Us Hype for Kristen Stewart & Alia Shawkat’s New Comedy
We are very, ahem, high on this stoner comedy packed with sapphics and comic faves!
Grab your lez bestie and get ready, because the trailer for what is looking to be the stoner buddy comedy of the year, The Wrong Girls, just dropped, and our hype levels are officially through the roof!
The film stars Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat as two codependent besties (and their cats, but we’ll get back to that) who are just trying to get by while “living paycheck to paycheck and bong rip to bong rip.” But their lives take a major supernatural detour when a case of mistaken identity lands them with a briefcase full of glowing, mysterious vials—which, of course, they immediately sample. This leaves them in the crosshairs of deadly rivals and with some new supernatural powers.
Oh, and one of those powers is the ability to hear the thoughts of their pet cats, voiced by Seth Rogen and Kumail Nanjiani(see, I told you we’d circle back). The cast is rounded out with a bevy of beloved comedic actors, including Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, LaKeith Stanfield, and the always divisive Geena Davis.
To top it all off, the film is directed by Stewart’s wife, Dylan Meyer. If all of that weren’t enough to get us excited on paper, the trailer dropped today, and this movie looks like an absolute blast. Here are the 9 high points in the trailer that have us ready to rush to the box office when the film hits theaters on August 14.
1. Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat on screen together

Be still our gay hearts, we’ve prayed for days like this! These two incredible out and proud actors playing stoner besties? Yes, this is the team-up we’ve been waiting for.
2. Scumbag lez vibes

The last time Stewart played a scumbag lez (Love Lies Bleeding), our brain chemistry changed. While this is a very different vibe, we can’t help but love when the actress lets loose and has fun with it.
3. Talking cats

Do we really have to explain? No, you get it.
4. We love women in STEM

Is it a drug lab? Yes. But it takes a lot of chemistry and math knowledge to create a super drug that will make you psychic. And that, we do applaud.
5. Kate McKinnon … doing an accent

Saturday Night Live has never been the same since this hilarious lesbian left the studio, so, of course, getting to see her back playing a silly character is sparking all the sapphic joy.
6. Kate McKinnon and Geena ‘effing Davis

Speaking of sapphic joy: Geena Davis serving evil corporate realness? Yes, she’s giving villain, but don’t yuck our yum.
7. Is this a … dance number?

This looks suspiciously like a drug-fueled dance number, and we’re excited to pick up the choreo.
8. Credit where credit is due!

We can’t wait to see a Dylan Meyer film! While Meyer is known for her screenplays (Moxie, Rock Bottom), this marks her feature film directorial debut!
