The Very Best of NYC Comedy

Paula Poundstone, Alaska: Red for Filth, The Vaudevillians, Homo Comicus

Paula Poundstone has been making us laugh for over 30 years on cable specials, in film, on late night TV, and as the author of her memoir There Is Nothing In This Book I Meant to Say. An observational comic in the style of Ellen DeGeneres, she pokes fun at everything from Pop Tarts to parenthood. On July 26, she will bring that trademark wry humor to City Winery in a stand-up set that is sure to leave you laughing and thinking. Don’t miss the comic who Comedy Central ranked as one of the top 100 of all time.

Look up the word “kooky” in the dictionary and you’ll probably find a picture of Judy Tenuta. The accordion-playing “Love Goddess” is known for her memorable appearances on VH1, Hollywood Squares and The Match Game, plus roles in cult flicks like Going Down in La-La Land and the gay classic Butch Camp. She’ll be taking the stage July 11-12 at the Laurie Beechman Theater in a new show entitled Judy Tenuta: Full Frontal Tenudity. Get ready for a wild and crazy set, because when Judy’s in town, all bets are off!

Two stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race are also coming to the Laurie Beechman Theater this summer. Alaska stars in her own solo show Alaska: Red for Filth, proving she’s got more than enough personality and attitude to hold her own. Running from August 8 to the 11, the show promises to put camp and vaudevillian filth high up on a pedestal, where they most definitely belong. Meanwhile, Drag Race contestant Jinkx Monsoon will bring her musical comedy show The Vaudevillians to the stage July 9 to the 26, with composer and musician Major Scales.

Nervous flyers, relax: Pam Ann is in the house. Everyone’s favorite airline stewardess makes a quick landing in New York with what may be her most outrageous comedy show ever. Get ready for laughs galore as Pam pokes fun at the airline industry’s latest troubles and screens footage from her self-titled Australian TV talk show. Pam Ann: Cockpit is at Joe’s Pub through June 16.

On July 3, monthly comedy showcase Homo Comicus will feature a mix of gay and gay-friendly funny folk at Gotham Comedy Club. Past performers have included Kate Clinton, Michele Balan and Jessica Halem. Check gothamcomedyclub .com for July’s exciting lineup.
