Kim Severson
Journalist Kim Severson has been a reporter for The Anchorage Daily News; a food writer for the San Francisco Chronicle, where she racked up a number of awards including four James Beard awards for food writing; and, since 2004, a food writer for The New York Times, where she maintains a dedicated readership. Despite her career success, Severson’s personal life suffered as she battled alcoholism. Her new memoir, Spoon Fed: How Eight Cooks Saved My Life was recently published by Riverhead Books. In Spoon Fed, Severson documents her conversations with eight well-known female chefs, learning different life lessons from each. They helped her get sober, face her mother’s mortality and even learn how to not be intimidated by the popular girls. She says, “I hope my work inspires people to cook more and to sit down and eat together. So many people in the LGBT community make their own families. We need to create our own family table.” –CB
