There is no debate that women’s soccer is gay. We all know it. But an unfortunate trend has occurred—for the past few years, especially in USWNT culture, the sport has gotten increasingly straight. The gays reclaimed the sport in a big way following the conclusion of Sunday’s Women’s Euro Cup Finals.

While the sporting action takes place during the game’s 90 minutes, historically, the gay action takes place after the final whistle. Think back to Kelley O’Hara running up to the stands to kiss her surprise girlfriend in 2019 after winning the World Cup. Or when Kristie Mewis consoled her now wife, Sam Kerr, after beating Australia, giving us the iconic, “They’re lesbians, Stacey” comment.

The Euros post-whistle pitch was filled with sapphic dating rumors and displays of “sportsmanship.” So much so that USWNT legend Megan Rapinoe took to Instagram stories to write, “also gays over everyone so…I love it here.” Here are all of the supposedly sapphic goings-on that have sent gay Twitter into a frenzy.

Lucy Bronze and Ona Batlle Comfort One Another

In a “They’re lesbians, Stacey” moment, England star Lucy Bronze and Spain star Ona Batlle were captured by cameras comforting each other after England’s hard-earned victory. Bronze and Batlle, who were previously teammates on Barcelona, have had their fair share of dating buzz since fans have caught on to their shared holidays and occasional couple pics.

Bronze, who on Monday revealed had been playing on a fractured tibia, shared a lovely moment with Batlle despite her own disposition for privacy. The moment reminded fans of Batlle consoling Bronze at a tournament two years ago. How sweet! While the footballers have yet to confirm their romance, we are just happy to see such wonderful sportsmanship on display.

Leah Williamson and Elle Smith Share Heart Eyes

Leah Williamson, England’s captain, proved she was winning on and off the field when she went to celebrate with rumored girlfriend and former Miss USA Elle Smith. Smith, donning a “Live, Laugh, Leah” shirt, could be seen beaming as she watched Williamson greet her family in the stands. Look at those heart eyes!

The couple has been linked for a while now, having posted a series of soft launch posts (how many soft launches are each couple afforded?). From holiday photo dumps, celebration posts, and a birthday post captioned, “happy birthday my love x,” I think this might be a closed case.

Niamh Charles and Cat Macario Share a Hug…

While the other couples have a good amount of evidence, this pairing might actually just be a case of supportive teammates. But gay Twitter is treating it differently. Based on a prolonged hug in the stands, fans have theorized that Chelsea FC teammates Niamh Charles and Cat Macario are dating. We will refrain from commenting and let the audience decide.
