Charm Your Holiday Hookup With These Unapologetically Basic Dates

November 16, 2021

Two people can definitely fit in a single sleeping bag *wink wink*.

The Holidays are the best (and cringiest) time of year. With apple cider and hot coco coursing through our veins, it’s the perfect time to poke fun at all of the basic couples holding hands and jumping through piles of leaves all over Instagram. But hell, if you can’t beat ‘em, throw on your UGG boots and join ‘em. And nobody does the holidays like lesbians. We practically came out of the womb wearing flannel. With days getting shorter, beds feeling emptier, and cuffing season quickly approaching, we have all the date night ideas to get things smokin’ hot in this chilly weather.

Bookstore Romance

Call me a hopeless romantic, but there is something so endearing about a bookstore date. Pick a cute bookshop with a cafe and extra comfy couches to linger on. The scent of coffee beans mixed with fresh paperbacks is what dreams and perfect dates are made of. Pick out a book for each other to gift at the end of the date (be sure to write a sweet note on the inside cover for her to find when she opens it–that’s what they do in all the romance movies, so obviously you should do it, too).

‘Twilight’ Movie Marathon

Okay, I know what you’re thinking. What the hell does “Twilight” have to do with a holiday date night? WELL. I’m glad you asked. The “Twilight” saga exudes fall/winter energy and is the best series to watch for a cozy night. Here’s why:

  • Vampires and werewolves are very spooky, therefore FALL
  • It’s a saga, therefore it’s incredibly bingeable but not like, “Star Wars”-level bingeable, which would require 25 hours and 7 minutes to get through (I googled it)
  • Alice was like at least 50% of all lesbians’ gay awakening
  • That creepy CGI baby is actually the most terrifying thing I have ever seen. So much so that the last film is basically a horror movie. And we all know horror movie = FALL.
The baby in question ^ creepy motherf*cker.

The Great Lesbian Baking Date

Pull out those overalls and L.L. Bean boots and put them to use. A quick google search will tell you exactly where your nearest apple orchard is, but feel free to pick whatever seasonal fruit you like best. Bring a basket, pick your fruits, bring them home, bake them up. Here’s a recipe rated 5 stars. In all honesty I haven’t tried it, but I did attempt to make an apple pie around this time last year and here’s how it turned out:

Queer Girl Pottery

Let’s be real ladies: pottery is the GAYEST of the arts and crafts. I mean, come on now. If Zolita’s latest music video taught us one thing, it’s that pottery is for queer girls only :)) Bring your date to a boozy pottery night and make something for one another (jewelry holder, mug, Christmas ornament, dildo, etc. Hey, we don’t judge here. Get creative with it). Or recreate the steamy scene from “Ghost” and make something ~together~. Don’t forget to carve your initials in a heart on the bottom of whatever you make. For example “S + K”, if me and Kristen Stewart went on a pottery date.

Flannel Finds

Hit up your local thrift shops and consignment stores together and pick out some winter-y vintage gems. You can never have enough oversized flannels, and whenever your boo wears their new digs they’ll think of you. It’s like science.

Road Trip

Shorter days and cold weather got you and your partner down? The adrenaline rush of going somewhere new can cure any and all seasonal depression (although my therapist may disagree. Sorry Amanda). There are tons of East Coast getaway destinations that are prime leaf-jumping-cider-drinking-mitten-wearing spots. Try Massachusetts or Pennsylvania for quaint sleepy towns filled with bakeries and bookstores. Or if your S.O. is of the outdoorsy type, head to the mountains for some crisp autumn hikes. Plus you can make the drive there a date in itself. All you need is an epic fall playlist for those winding roads and fallen leaves (think Taylor Swift’s “evermore” meets “Roslyn” by Bon Iver. You catch my drift).

Farmer’s Market Vibes

Get into it, tote bag gays!! Now is your time to shine and put those totes to WERK (turns out you can use them for more than the book you’ve been “reading” for six months and your glossier lip balm). Seasonal produce, lavender-scented bars of soap, succulents, handmade jewelry, and so much more can be found at your local markets. I swear you and your date can spend hours looking at all there is to offer. My personal favorite market in NYC, Tompkins Square Park Greenmarket, has apple cider donuts that are to die for. You’re welcome in advance.

Build A Fire

Nothing says “I’m a dyke” like building a fire. This is SURE to impress your date with your ultra-sexy wilderness survival skillz. Next, bring out the graham crackers and chocolate, and roast some marshmallows to make the iconic ooey-gooey treat that’s sure to get 😉 messy ;). Stargazing is greatly encouraged and so is telling ghost stories (your S.O. can snuggle up if she gets scared). If you’re brave enough, make it a camping trip. Two people can definitely fit in a single sleeping bag *wink wink*.

Sapphic Sip ‘n’ Paint

Sometimes the best date nights happen right inside your very own living room. Hit up a craft store and grab some canvases and paints. Then just get yourself some wine and you have the perfect cozy date night for two homebodies. You can try to paint each other (the more tipsy you get, the better artistè you become). And If you’re feeling fancy you can set the mood with a seasonal scented candle and trade out the wine for some boujee mixed drinks that are sure to impress.

If you try out any of these holiday lesbian date night ideas send us your pics and tell us how packing the U-Haul is going!
