Once Instagram figured out that I was gay, my explore page was inundated with lesbian content. I found myself in a rabbit hole of lesbian memes that had me laughing until I was crying but also actually crying. It was so surreal to find that not only did other people have the same experience that I did, they were able to articulate it in such a short, funny, and succinct way that answered so many questions that had plagued me for years.
I feverishly followed as many accounts as I could in an attempt to replace the complete lack of lesbians in my real life and religiously checked for new posts and Instagram stories to see what new thing I could learn about myself. I found out there was a reason why all of the goth girl cartoons were my favorite and why I struggled with trying to walk the seemingly thin line of platonic affection and “acting weird” towards my friends. Because I have been a big ol’ homo this whole time!
Every day, lesbian memes send me into a “That’s So Raven” style vision, but it’s a flashback to some gay shit that I did in the past that I didn’t even realize was so effing gay. Some make me sit back in my seat and contemplate my feelings for hours. Some are so deep that they hit me right in the gut and get stuck in my head for weeks. Some are light-hearted takes on dating or relationships that highlight the best parts of being a lesbian but also the worst parts. No matter the topic, memers have the unique ability to tap into our most specific experiences and bring them to light for everyone to relate to. So, in my accumulated hours on the internet, I have been able to find meme accounts that may not be huge but that have had a huge impact on my development into the strong, self-actualized sapphic that I am today.
Hotmessbian is the first name that comes to many minds when it comes to lesbian memes. Not to brag, but she *is* followed by Ruby Rose, who also gave hotmessbian a shout out on her social media. She’s like the lesbian next door—if there was ever a town that actually had enough lesbians that two of them could live next to each other. Plus, she consistently posts. Like, I’m talking every two hours.
GAY_GIRL_INC
Gay_girl_inc makes memes that indicate that she would definitely be your best friend if you met her IRL. She finds the most obscure pop culture references that fit perfectly with her equally obscure life references. Her bio says she provides “soft hitting content,” but believe me when I say this shit slaps.
SAPPHICSIGH
Sapphicsigh is the queen of curating content. Plus, her entirely pale pink theme speaks to my flashy femme soul. While your soul connects with her lesbian memes, you can also connect to your inner fairy princess. It’s just so funny and so pink and so lovely and I can’t get enough of it.
ILITERALLYCAT
This meme account encompasses so many experiences beyond just dating women, which makes its power even stronger. The memer, iliterallycat, tackles social issues outside of lesbian drama that makes her page both humorous and educational. She mainly calls out cishet dudes, who constantly need and deserve to be taken down a peg.
GAYBYDAZE
Gaybydaze (pronounced gay-bee days) is just coming out and making up for every moment she spent in the closet. Her incredibly funny and transparent memes are directly based on her daily life, but they somehow apply to all of us, regardless of whether we have gone through this gayby phase or are going through it now.
DYKESGUSTING
Dykesgusting is not just another lesbian meme account. Her contributions started only last month, but she already has been killing the meme game. What is funnier than stock photos and poop? Literally nothing.
FAILUREPRINCESS
Much like iliterallycat, failureprincess makes content about common experiences beyond just dating. The emotional whirlwind that we are all stuck in feels like it’s a tornado for one, but her memes remind you that it’s actually a hurricane of hundreds. So, as much as it sucks, it still feels nice to not be alone.
FRUSTRATEDLESBIAN
Frustratedlesbian’s bio says she posts mostly lesbian memes, but all of them are relatable. I never realized how important it is to make good looking memes, but she has figured it out. They’re all, like, easy to read if that makes sense? It’s so easy to scroll through all of them at once. Not that I’ve done that (but, like, I have).
CUBBYHOES
Cubbyhole is an experience that you can truly understand only if you actually go there, but cubbyhoes is a meme experience made for all. This lesbian meme page somehow captures the feelings that we all have when we visit that mecca and made it social-media-accessible. Not near NYC? Not a problem.

LESBIMEMEZ
Lebimemez’s bio says she creates “posts celebrating all wlw and their rich history + memeing ability,” and that she does. She is able to speak to the experience of any and all WLWs with pictures that are unsuspectingly sapphic, but, in the context that she puts them in, totally work.
This list is by no means exhaustive, so, while you follow these, keep an eye out for other content creators! Not to be dramatic, but you never know whose lesbian meme will change your life.
