Queer engagement alert! Our friends at Autostraddle reported last night that Emmy Winner Lena Waithe joined Dave Holmes and Matt McConkey on their podcast Homophilia on December 15. And she dropped MAJOR celesbian news: She’s engaged!
She proposed to her beautiful fiancée, Vimeo’s Head of Original Programming Alana Mayo, on Thanksgiving, in Tokyo! Ugh, we live for power couples.
On the podcast, Lena said, “… it was actually our first Thanksgiving together … normally, she goes home to Cleveland, I stay here and freeload off of people, so this year, she was like, ‘let’s spend it together’ and I was, ‘okay, of course.’ And then a friend of ours who’s been to Tokyo many times was like, ‘we should go there,’… and I’ll give you guys a bit of a scoop because we haven’t said it on social media yet, but I will, I’ll do a post … but I proposed on Thanksgiving in Tokyo … like, it was just like in the morning, in the bed, no string, but, you know, it was super low-key. But, yeah, that’s what I did for Thanksgiving.”
*screams*
What is with all these secret-casual-under-cover proposals!!! I want to be the nosey voyeur I am!! Post something on Instagram, Lena, so we can swoon!!!
In September, Lena talked to brides.com about her dream wedding. When speaking about her future bride, she said, “She’s pretty fly. It’ll be small and intimate, honestly, but she’s also like a black Audrey Hepburn; she’s old school classic, and I know I have a bit more of a swaggier style, so we complement each other really well. It’ll be something small, intimate and very personal.”
We can’t wait for that small and intimate wedding to happen IRL! And we can’t wait to see the combo of old school classic + swaggy. *heart eyes* Congratulations Lena and Alana; we at GO Mag wish you all the happiness in the world!
