Finally! Lesbian Rom-Com ‘Happiest Season’ Drops First-Look Stills From The Film

“I think I’ve wished to see a gay Christmas rom com my whole life. I’m so happy and proud of Clea for bringing this into the world.”

For over a year, we have been bringing you updates on the long-developing queer rom-com “Happiest Season.” In 2018, we let you know that Kristen Stewart had been announced as the lead. Last year, we had the latest scoop on Mackenzie Davis being cast as Stewart’s love interest. At the beginning of the year, the official Instagram account announced November 25, 2020 as the film’s release date. And now, we have actual stills from the film to prove to you that, yes, “Happiest Season” is indeed on its way. If you’ve been waiting to celebrate for two years, now’s your chance to let it all out!

Last week, Clea DuVall (the film’s director and an overall celesbian icon) released some stills from the movie to People Magazine. This is the actor’s second directing experience, with the first being “The Intervention” in 2016. We got a sneak peeek at some of the other cast, including Dan Levy from Emmy-nominated “Schitt’s Creek,” Aubrey Plaza, Alison Brie, Mary Steenburgen, and co-writer Mary Holland.

“I think I’ve wished to see a gay Christmas rom com my whole life,” Stewart told People Magazine. “I’m so happy and proud of Clea for bringing this into the world. I love when [a] holiday movie makes you long for an idea of home, but also examines how hilarious and hard reality at home can be sometimes.”

The movie is being produced by TriStar Pictures and tells the story of Kristen Stewart’s character Abby, who is planning a surprise proposal to her girlfriend, Harper (played by Davis), while they’re home for the holidays — only to find out that Harper is not yet out to her conservative family. Of course, hilarity and hijinks abound in this film.

“Maybe I’m biased, but this was one of the most fun sets I have ever been on,” DuVall tells People. “From the cast to the crew, everyone showed up each day with an excitement and energy that made every day a joy.”
